Fire safety briefings are compulsory for all employees who carry out their duties on site It provides an understanding of what to do in the event of a fire, teaching the skills needed to protect your own safety and the safety of others.

WHAT A FIRE SAFETY BRIEFING COVERS

  • General information about the site, including existing fire safety systems, allocation of responsibilities, etc.
  • The requirements of the instruction that are directly relevant to the duties of the particular employee.
  • Algorithm for action in case of fire - evacuation, calling the rescue services, switching off electrical equipment, protection of valuables.
  • Additional safety precautions when working in hazardous conditions.

IN WHICH CASES A SAFETY BRIEFING IS COMPULSORY

  • On commencement of work - all new employees must receive a mandatory fire safety briefing before commencing work to ensure they understand the safety rules and what to do in the event of a fire.
  • Every 6 months - twice a year in educational, medical and care establishments, as regular updating and awareness of safety requirements is particularly important in these settings to protect both staff and residents.
  • Once a year - In all other workplaces and facilities, a fire safety briefing should be given at least once a year to refresh knowledge and ensure that workers are prepared to deal with emergencies.
  • In the event of a change in instructions, a breach of fire safety requirements or a fire, all employees must be re-briefedif changes are made to fire safety instructions or regulations Similarly, in the event of a breach of fire safety rules or a fire, additional briefings are required to prevent a recurrence of similar situations.
  • In establishments with more than 50 people, in addition to the theoretical briefing, practical training is provided to train employees and visitors on how to deal with a fire to ensure a quick and effective evacuation and minimise the potential consequences.

RECORDS OF BRIEFINGS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Briefings given shall be recorded in the Fire Safety Briefing Record Book Employees are obliged to know and follow the instructions The content of the briefing may be adapted to the specific situation or role of the employees.
